Combat Mold with Essential oils

In addition to removing the source of mold in your home, it is helpful to diffuse essential oils (which accesses the same olfactory neuronal pathway as mold) to clean the air and balance the body.  This is also helpful for mitigating mold outside of the home, like in schools or the workplace.   The following blends are some of my favorites for mitigating mold and fungus.

Mold is known to contribute to inflammatory health conditions, including learning disabilities, gastrointestinal disturbances, heart problems, Cancer, Lyme Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Fibromyalgia, problems with thyroid regulation (both excess and deficiency), and several autoimmune diseases.

Mold is a bit of a silent killer, hiding in homes, office buildings, hotel room and schools, causing many of us to feel awful, often without really knowing why.

In fact, as many as 30% of us may have a genetic susceptibility to bio toxins like mold, where the immune system fails to recognize the mold as a toxin and cannot flag the toxins or make anti-bodies necessary to clear the mold from the body. This allows the toxins to build up in the body unchecked with symptoms that build with each exposure.

It’s interesting that the olfactory system, the neural pathway for the sense of smell, directly communicates with your brain via your olfactory neurons. This can be a good thing in the case of essential oils, or pose a health challenge in the case of toxins that you might inhale or smell, like mold.

Don’t despair, because just as toxins like mold can cross directly into your brain through the olfactory neurons, so can essential oils.
Essential Oils are a great tool to use to help negate the negative effects of mold by cleaning the mold, cleaning the air and supporting the body’s organs of detoxification.

3 Steps to Combating Mold with Essential Oils

Did you know that your olfactory system, the neural pathway for the sense of smell, directly communicates with your brain via your olfactory neurons?
This can be a good thing in the case of essential oils, or pose a health challenge in the case of toxins that you might inhale or smell, like mold.
Mold can hit us when we least expect it.  In our homes, our office buildings, hotel room and schools.  Sadly, as many as 40 percent of American schools and 25 percent of homes have mold infestations, unbeknownst to the people occupying those buildings, according to mold expert Dr. Jack Thrasher.
And as many as 30% of us may have a genetic susceptibility to bio toxins like mold, where the immune system fails to recognize the mold as a toxin and cannot flag the toxins or make anti-bodies necessary to clear the mold from the body.  This allows the toxins to build up in the body unchecked with symptoms that build with each exposure.
Don’t despair, because just as toxins like mold can cross directly into your brain through the olfactory neurons, so can essential oils.
Essential Oils are a great tool to use to help negate the negative effects of mold by cleaning the mold, cleaning the air and supporting the body’s organs of detoxification.

1.  Remove the Mold with Essential Oils

Tea Tree
oil is a powerful natural fungicide. To use this essential oil to kill existing mold and mildew growth, simply add around ten drops of tea tree oil to a glass spray bottle filled with water or vinegar (Vinegar is naturally antimicrobial).  Do not use Bleach! (It appears to work, but the mold can quickly return). Shake the bottle and spray onto hard surfaces where mold and mildew are growing.  Let it sit for a few minutes to kill and dissolve the fungus, then wipe away with a cloth or sponge. Tea Tree oils is known to kill the fungus and help to prevent future growth.

2. Clean the Air with Essential Oils

Purification – Designed to neutralize mildew, mold, fungus, airborne bacteria and viruses when diffused into a room. This blend combines six powerful essential oils known for their antibacterial, antimicrobial, antiseptic, fungicidal, antiviral properties.  The synergy of  Citronella, Lavender, Lemongrass, Rosemary, Myrtle, and Tea Tree helps clean the air and neutralize airborne toxins.

Histamine Balance – may help modulate the immune response to mold. As you may know, Histamine is a chemical compound released by the cells in response to injury, allergic or inflammatory reactions, causing contraction of smooth muscle and dilation of capillaries.  While the release of histamine is a normal defense mechanism, an exaggerated histamine response can bind to cell receptor sites, causing irritation and chronic inflammation. This inflammatory response can cause sneezing, runny nose, watery, red, itchy eyes, rashes, breathing troubles such as wheezing, severe coughs, asthma, or hiccups. The goal is to balance, not block, the histamine response as histamine performs critical functions in body. The essential oils in the Histamine Balance blend are uniquely suited to help modulate excess histamine excretion, balancing histamine levels and helping to reset the immune response and reduce allergic reactions. To learn more about balancing the Histamine Reaction to mold,

Immune Support, which is Vibrant Blue Oils version of Thieves blend may help eliminate mold spores in the air and on surfaces.  Mold toxins tend to affect more systems in your body than do pesticides or heavy metals, partly because fungi have the ability to dodge your immune system by rapidly mutating, while at the same time producing chemicals that suppress your immune system. Supporting your immune system by diffusing or topically applying Immune Support can help reduce stress on the immune system.

Support the Body’s Detoxification Pathways with Essential Oils

One of the biggest challenges of mold is that it poses a constant strain on the immune system and overtaxes the organs of detoxification.  To help the body return to balance and heal, consider the following essential oils to support the body’s detoxification.

Parasympathetic There are 2 states of the nervous system:  The Fight or Flight Sympathetic State and the Rest and Digest Parasympathetic State.  In order for the body to detoxify and heal, it needs to be in the rest and digest parasympathetic state. To stimulate the parasympathetic response, apply Vibrant Blue Parasympathetic blend to the vagal nerve (behind the earlobe on the mastoid bone) throughout the day and before meals.
You can also support detoxification through the skin by adding 2 -3 drops of Parasympathetic oil to a Healing Bath (2 cups of Epsom salt, 1 cup of baking soda).

Liver — The Liver plays a huge role in the detoxification effort, filtering toxins from blood and neutralizing the toxins in preparation for elimination. To support optimal health and vitality of the liver, apply Vibrant Blue Oils Liver   over the liver (right side of body under breast) 2 – 3 times daily.

Gall Bladder — The Gall Bladder concentrates the bile to help break down fat and carry toxins out of the body.  If the bile becomes too thick, it doesn’t flow as well and toxins (especially estrogen) don’t move out of the system and often get reabsorbed.  Applying Vibrant Blue Oils Gall Bladder  (right side of body, under breast) 2 – 3 times daily supports the flow of bile and with it toxins out of the body.

Lymph — Interstitial lymph fluid flows through the lymph nodes where toxins are filtered out.  Unlike the cardiovascular system, the lymphatic system does not have a heart to pump the fluid through the body.  The more you can help the  lymph fluid flow, the more quickly you can move toxins out of the body.  Apply 2 – 3 drops of  Vibrant Blue Oils Lymph blend along the sides of the neck, arm pits and along the bikini line to help keep lymph flowing to move toxins out of the body.

Kidney — The kidneys play a key role in detoxification, regulating the flow and balance of fluids in the body, filtering blood and removing water-soluble waste products.  Blood flows through the kidneys at its highest pressure, filtering out toxins and directing nourishing materials to where they are needed.  Applying 2-3 drops of Vibrant Blue Oils Kidney Support over the kidneys (one inch up and out from belly button), back of neck, or around the outside of earlobes may help support this organ of detoxification.

Lung – The lungs help release toxins from the body with the out breath.  Applying 2 -3 drops of Vibrant Blue Oils Lung Support or Breathe over the lungs can help support this detoxification pathway.
